Trade Winds Swirl: New York Mets Poised to Deal Two All-Star Talents, Rival GMs Speculate!

The New York Mets’ winning percentage hasn’t changed much after replacing Buck Showalter with Carlos Mendoza as manager. They won 46% of their games last year, and they’re up to 44% this year as of today.

But, unlike last year, the Mets did not go all out this summer, spending a lot of money to attempt to win the World Series. They were aware that this would be a dismal year.

However, that did not prevent team president David Stearns from signing six-time All-Star slugger J.D. Martinez, who had been unsigned for several months as a free agent. Martinez, who signed a one-year contract worth $12 million, has responded with a good season.

However, Martinez is not anticipated to re-sign with the Mets next season, and depending on how they play between now and the July 30 MLB trade deadline, he may be moved out of town.

MLB GMs expect New York Mets’ Pete Alonso and J.D. Martinez to hit trade block

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Martinez and Pete Alonso are anticipated to participate in trade talks during the next two months.

“While the Mets say they still have intentions of being a playoff team this year, GMs remain convinced the Mets will still make first baseman Pete Alonso and DH J.D. Martinez available in talks before the July 30 trade deadline.”

Alonso, like Martinez, is slated to become an unrestricted free agent once the season ends. The three-time All-Star may not be an on-base specialist, but he is one of baseball’s top home run hitters.

The 29-year-old’s remarkable ability to slam home runs out of the park would help enhance many MLB lineups, and he’s likely to get a lot of attention, both as a trade target and later in free agency.
