American sprint star Sha’Carri Richardson has shared an emotional update as she reconnects with a cherished companion while gearing up for key milestones in the 2025 track season. The sprinter, after weeks of intense training and competitions, has finally reunited with her beloved dog, Champion, who had been away for a month undergoing training at a K9 academy.
Back on May 14, 2025, Richardson had shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, bidding farewell to Champion as he left for the K9 Training Academy in Orlando, Florida. The video was captioned:
“Champion goes to school 🐕🦺.. We’re definitely missing him 😭but he’s in great hands @thek9trainingacademyorlando.”
Now, a month later, she posted a joyful update on Instagram, writing:
“Somebody coming home soon!!!!!”
as first reported by SportsKeeda.
Back on Track
The reunion comes at a critical phase in Richardson’s career. She wrapped up the 2024 season with a 6th place finish in Brussels, clocking 11.23 seconds in the 100m. She’s since returned to competition in 2025, placing 4th at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix with a time of 11.47 seconds. Despite not making the podium, her focus remains on continued progress.
A New Challenge with Athlos
Richardson has also joined Athlos, a women-only track event launched by Alexis Ohanian, entrepreneur and husband of Serena Williams. Expressing her enthusiasm, she said:
“This 2025 season, I am excited to continue to push the limits on what it is that I can do.”
She added,
“Being in the forefront of a monumental step in changing the sport I feel like, it’s a responsibility that I take very seriously. I am honored to continue to be a part of something that the next generation will continue to know, and carry the torch and know that nothing could stop them. It’s just the beginning.”
She’ll be competing alongside fellow Olympic medalists Tara Davis-Woodhall and Gabby Thomas at Athlos in 2026.
Life Beyond the Finish Line
Since claiming gold and silver medals at the Paris Olympics in the 4x100m relay and 100m, respectively, Richardson’s influence has reached beyond the track. From red carpet appearances to motivational speaking, she’s using her platform to inspire future athletes.
