Devin Booker has made it clear that he wants to stay with the Phoenix Suns, and the organization has echoed that desire. Still, other teams might try to challenge that commitment.
Following a rocky situation with Kevin Durant after an unremarkable but headline-grabbing trade deadline, there’s growing speculation that the Suns might move on from the future Hall of Famer. Complicating matters is Bradley Beal’s burdensome contract — he’s still owed $110 million and holds a no-trade clause.
If Phoenix decides to rebuild, one potential trade partner stands out: the Dallas Mavericks. In a stunning February move, the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis and secured the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, expected to be Cooper Flagg.
If Mavericks GM Nico Harrison wants to align the team’s timeline around Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, he might be willing to part with that top pick. For the Suns, that could create the perfect opening to reset their franchise.
Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World suggested a bold trade idea: Phoenix sends Devin Booker and Ryan Dunn to Dallas, and in return, gets the No. 1 pick, Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, and Daniel Gafford. While parting ways with Booker — who’s been loyal to the franchise since day one — would be difficult, a rebuild built around Flagg might be too tempting to pass up.
Although it’s unlikely that the Mavericks would trade away the first overall pick, acquiring a superstar like Booker in his prime would be a major return. As for Phoenix, even though it would mean moving on from a cornerstone player, this might be the best moment to start fresh — especially if they can also find a new destination for Durant and offload Beal’s contract.
Rebuilding isn’t an easy decision, but in this context, it might be the smartest move.
