As the 2025 NBA Playoffs march on, major offseason buzz is building—and at the center of it is none other than Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant. Multiple insiders, including Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, report that the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to aggressively pursue Durant in the upcoming offseason. With the Suns failing to qualify for the Play-In Tournament and sitting out of the 2025 NBA Draft lottery, all eyes are now on Phoenix’s next move—and whether it includes moving one of the league’s greatest scorers.

Durant, now 36, continues to defy age with elite performance, posting averages of 26.6 points, 6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game on a remarkable 52.7% shooting and 43% from three. But despite his brilliance, the Suns ended their season in disappointment—prompting many around the league to speculate that a blockbuster trade could be looming.

NBA insider Brett Siegel notes that the Heat and Timberwolves were among several teams—including the Rockets, Mavericks, Warriors, and Hawks—that held exploratory trade talks with the Suns involving Durant and Devin Booker before the deadline. While no deal materialized, those conversations may now pick up steam.

The Miami Heat are a team in need of revitalization. After an uneven 37-45 regular season, they made history as the first 10th seed to win both Play-In games and reach the postseason. Yet their playoff run was brief, as they were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. Miami is clearly lacking a go-to scoring presence, and Durant could be a transformational addition.

Minnesota, meanwhile, is enjoying a stronger campaign. Finishing 49-33, the Timberwolves are currently in the thick of their second-round series against the Golden State Warriors, tied at 1-1 after a commanding Game 2 win. However, if they fall short of a deep playoff push, the team could reignite their trade efforts. Sources previously revealed that Minnesota pursued Durant at the deadline but refused to include rising stars Anthony Edwards or Jaden McDaniels in any deal. Edwards and Durant also share a bond from their 2024 Team USA gold-medal run in Paris.

As Phoenix enters a defining offseason with limited draft capital and unclear direction, Durant’s future is rapidly becoming one of the most compelling narratives to watch. Should trade talks resurface, expect Miami and Minnesota to be at the front of the line.
