When Usain Bolt was asked whether Tyreek Hill could beat him in a race, he was unequivocal in his response.
The legendary sprinter, famed for his Olympic gold medals and world records, was clear and confident, asserting that Hill, despite his impressive speed as an NFL player, would not surpass him in a direct competition.
Bolt’s self-assurance highlights his extraordinary sprinting prowess, which has established him as a track and field icon with records like 9.58 seconds in the 100 meters and 19.19 seconds in the 200 meters. Bolt’s response underscores the significant difference between sprinting and the speed required in football.
The dialogue around a potential race between Bolt and Hill gained traction after Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson discussed it on the Nightcap show. Hill was visibly unsettled by being compared to Bolt and responded sharply on X, stating, “Not even in a next universe.” Hill’s retort was bold: “You’re all talk old guy, I’ll come to Jamaica to whoop you if I got to.” This reaction indicates Hill’s eagerness to challenge Bolt despite the latter’s superior sprinting record.
Hill, known for being one of the fastest NFL players with a 4.29-second 40-yard dash, and Bolt, recognized as the fastest man ever with a 9.58-second 100 meters, are both celebrated for their speed, though in different domains.
When asked by TMZ about the possibility of a race, Bolt responded, “I told him man if he’s really serious we can figure it out because first time I met him, he was always talking you know he just kept talking so it would be good to put it to bed.” Bolt acknowledged the need for extra training to prepare, saying, “I’ve been retired for a while so I need to get my legs going again, I mean I’ve still got speed of course but I would have to get it going.”
The idea of betting an Olympic gold medal against a Super Bowl ring was also floated, but Bolt was skeptical about Hill’s willingness, quipping, “I don’t think he would, he’s only got one [Super Bowl ring] so he’s probably scared haha.”
On the race’s potential outcome, Bolt speculated, “I still think I’d get him at 40 [yards] but I mean to be safe you’ve always got to be extra safe you know what I mean but I do still think I get him at 40.” He added, “I may be slow out of the blocks but I get up to top speed real quick.”
