Spurs Secure Former Suns Center
The San Antonio Spurs have decided to sign former Phoenix Suns center Bismack Biyombo for the remainder of the season, as reported by NBA insider Chris Haynes on Twitter/X:
“San Antonio Spurs will sign center Bismack Biyombo for remainder of the season following the conclusion of his second 10-day contract, league source tell me. Bis registered two double-doubles this week.”
The move comes as San Antonio deals with the loss of Victor Wembanyama, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder. With Wembanyama sidelined, Biyombo is expected to see significant playing time.
Since joining the Spurs, Biyombo has played in five games, including one against Phoenix, logging at least 12 minutes per game while averaging 5.7 points and 5 rebounds per contest. However, San Antonio has struggled during this stretch, posting a 1-4 record.
Biyombo previously played for the Suns from 2022 to 2023, averaging 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds while backing up Deandre Ayton and JaVale McGee. While not a major offensive threat, he provided strong defense, toughness in the paint, and rim protection, making him a fan favorite in Phoenix.
Beyond basketball, Biyombo is known for his charitable work. He donated his entire 2021-22 salary to build a hospital in Congo in honor of his father.
Now in his 14th NBA season, the veteran center has also had stints with the Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
