Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations, Tim Connelly, has firmly committed to returning next season, bolstering the team’s stability amid an ongoing ownership transition.
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – Connelly’s decision to stay is backed by a restructured contract, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to the Timberwolves.
According to The Athletic, Connelly has postponed the opt-out clause in his contract until after the 2024-25 season. Initially brought to the Timberwolves with a five-year, $40 million deal, Connelly’s contract includes an ownership stake contingent on Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore assuming majority ownership from Glen Taylor. This ownership transfer, currently in arbitration, underscores Connelly’s integral role in the franchise’s future.
Connelly, the mastermind behind the Timberwolves’ historic Western Conference Finals appearance and their second-best regular season, reaffirmed his intention to stay even after the team’s recent playoff exit.
Despite speculation linking him to the Detroit Pistons’ front office, a position now occupied by Trajan Langdon, Connelly’s commitment to the Timberwolves remains resolute.
“I hope so, I mean moving wasn’t fun, so absolutely. I’ve had a blast here, it feels like we have roots here. That’s the goal, it’s been a great couple years here and I hope we can make it a much longer couple years,” Connelly said Friday.
The Timberwolves have laid the groundwork for enduring success. With their top seven players, including the dynamic trio of Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert, all secured under contract for next season, the future looks exceptionally bright.
Edwards, recently honored with Second Team All-NBA, and Gobert, celebrated as Defensive Player of the Year for a record fourth time, highlight the team’s elite talent.
Additionally, Naz Reid’s recognition as Sixth Man of the Year and Chris Finch’s status as a Coach of the Year finalist underscore the team’s formidable strength and exceptional leadership.
