The Phoenix Suns are preparing to host the Washington Wizards on Saturday, and they’ve received encouraging injury updates about two key players.
On Friday, Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer shared updates on Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkić. “I do expect Beal to play after practicing on Friday,” Budenholzer confirmed. He also noted that Nurkić would return after recovering from an illness.
Beal, who missed the Suns’ last game against the Brooklyn Nets due to an ankle injury, participated in practice and is now expected to suit up. This is a significant boost for Phoenix, as Beal has excelled in his new role off the bench, providing much-needed offensive firepower.
Budenholzer also confirmed Nurkić’s return after the center missed the Suns’ five-game road trip due to illness. However, his role remains uncertain following his benching in favor of Mason Plumlee a few weeks ago and the recent addition of Nick Richards from the Charlotte Hornets.
This positive news couldn’t come at a better time for the Suns, who currently sit 10th in the Western Conference standings with a 22-21 record, far below preseason expectations. Beal’s return is particularly crucial, as he’s averaging 17.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. His presence off the bench will complement stars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
As for Nurkić, his role may be diminished following Richards’ emergence as the starting center. Budenholzer is likely to ease Nurkić back into action after his illness.
