West Ham United are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, according to ExWHUEmployee. With manager Graham Potter aiming to stamp his authority on the squad after taking charge midway through the 2024/25 season, bringing in a new goalkeeper has become a major summer priority.
Though the club has been linked with several goalkeepers in recent months, they have now identified their primary target and a deal appears close to being finalized.
West Ham in ‘Advanced Talks’ for Suzuki
Discussions ongoing between all parties
Suzuki, described as “one of the best goalkeeping talents in Europe,” has become West Ham’s main goalkeeper target following the departure of veteran Lukasz Fabianski this summer. Currently, Alphonse Areola is the starting keeper at London Stadium, but Potter wants to strengthen the squad further with Suzuki, who has been linked with Manchester United in the past two transfer windows.
Talks continue between Suzuki’s representatives, West Ham, and his current club Parma, with optimism that the deal could soon be completed if all goes well.
“We can exclusively reveal that we are in advanced talks with Zion Suzuki.
The Japanese international who was born in the USA currently play for Parma in Italy. The 6’3 keeper is from Ghana and Japanese heritage and has elected to play for the team of his mother in Japan which is also where he was raised.
The player appears to have emerged as a top keeper target and talks have already started with the player through his agent and he could be one of the next players to join the club if all goes to plan, and the club decide that wages and fee are reasonable.
It would also tick the Asian market signing that the club have desires for a long time.”
While no agreement on fee or personal terms has been reached yet, these are expected to be the next steps. Should West Ham find them acceptable, the transfer could happen quickly.
In addition to goalkeepers, West Ham are also pursuing new defenders and midfielders, amid uncertainty surrounding star players Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta.
