Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees was booed by home fans at Yankee Stadium in New York City during his game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
The Yankees fell 2-0 to the Rays, with Judge striking out four times. The disappointed home audience booed loudly, expressing their wrath and disgust.
“I’ve heard worse, and I’d probably be doing the same thing in this situation,” Judge remarked after the game. As one of the best sluggers in Major League Baseball (MLB), he got off to a rough start in the 2024 season, hitting.179 with a slugging percentage of.359 and an on-base percentage of.682 in 21 games. He got 27 strikeouts, the second-highest total in the American League.
“It is still early. “It’s a long season,” Judge explained. “Just missed the pitch. When I receive a pitch in the zone, I have to take advantage since I don’t get many of them. And then I receive hits. I believe that’s what it boils down to. Just don’t miss your pitch when you get it, and go for walks when you’re not getting anything.”
Though Judge’s betting skills aren’t as keen as they once were, he still managed 17 walks, the second most in the majors.
“It’s hitting, man,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated. “We’ll be back next year to speak about a fantastic player who is going through a rough patch. And we’re in April. It occurs all the time, especially with excellence. Every year. And we’ll scratch our brains, and when you look up in a few weeks, Aaron Judge will still be Aaron Judge.
Only two years ago, Judge hit 62 home runs and 131 runs batted in 157 games. He was selected the AL’s Most Valuable Player for the season.
“I feel like he’s done a lot for this team, a lot for this organization,” Yankee pitcher Nestor Cortes stated. “He is going to come out of this. It’s only a question of time. This club is just too talented to play a lot more games like today. He is going to come around. He will undoubtedly be Aaron Judge. It’s only a question of time.”
