The New York Yankees are just one win away from achieving a 90-win season. As they aim for a hot streak before the regular season ends, the Seattle Mariners challenged them in their latest game.
Aaron Boone struggled to navigate Dan Wilson’s pitching rotation, resulting in a close 3-2 loss. However, another concern for fans was Jake Cousins being pulled from the game.
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB, the Yankees’ staff opted to take Jake Cousins out early due to tightness in his right pec, which would hinder his pitching ability. They may also be prioritizing his health for the postseason.
Cousins managed to pitch only 0.1 innings but recorded a strikeout against the Marlins despite his discomfort.
As for the Yankees’ other pitchers, they didnโt meet expectations but were still somewhat effective against Wilson’s lineup. Clarke Schmidt was the standout, pitching five innings with seven strikeouts and allowing one earned run, although he issued three walks.
Tim Hill and Clay Holmes were also called upon, but neither found their rhythm. Holmes pitched one inning with a walk, while Hill allowed two walks and recorded a strikeout.
Overall, the Yankees did not perform at their best on the mound, missing the chance to sweep the series but still managed to win two out of three games against the Mariners.
